Darlo Donkeys

Nestled within the heart of County Durham, Darlington’s thriving indoor bowls scene has long been a hub of friendly rivalry, sporting tradition, and local pride. Among the constellation of teams that call the Darlington Indoor Bowls Club home, none embody the spirit, grit, and good humour of the North East quite like the latest team to emerge from the club, Darlo Donkeys. With a name as memorable as their on-green exploits, the Darlo Donkeys are more than just a team—they are a community institution, united by a love for the sport and the camaraderie it inspires.

As the Darlington Indoor Bowls Club looks to the future, the Darlo Donkeys remain at the forefront of efforts to keep the sport thriving in the region. Plans are afoot to expand their community outreach, introduce more young players to the game, and perhaps even take their trademark spirit to competitions further afield.

Above all, the Donkeys are committed to preserving the welcoming, down-to-earth character that has made them so beloved within Darlington’s sporting landscape. For them, success is measured not just in trophies, but in the smiles, friendships, and memories created along the way.

From humble beginnings to future glories, from wry banter to unwavering support, the Darlo Donkeys have proved that in bowls—as in life—sometimes the greatest victories are those shared with friends. If you find yourself in Darlington on a rainy Tuesday evening, listen out for the laughter echoing from the indoor bowls club. Chances are, the Donkeys are at play, chasing not just glory, but the simple happiness that comes from playing the game they love.

The Darlo Donkeys currently represent Darlington Indoor Bowls Club in the summer Nationals. It is anticipated that teams in the Autumn and Spring sessions will soon adopt the Darlo Donkeys ethos as well.
